Our 18 week ultrasound was about an hour long and this is where they checked out all the organs and looked for any birth defects. All the baby's organs looked healthy and normal and there were no signs of birth defects. The kidneys were a little big, but we were told this was quite normal and they would probably have another look around 28 weeks.
For many parents, this is also where they find out the sex of the baby. Kevin and I opted out of that. We decided in the beginning that we wanted it to be a surprise at the end. I think not finding out the baby's gender has been a lot harder for our friends and family than it is for us.
