Deacon was originally named “Blaze” at Central Oregon Humane Society. Deacon was a name I liked and he responded well to it.
Nicknames: Bubbas, Puppas, Mr. BoDeacon, Big Boy, Buddy, Mandog, and Freakin
First Day home: May 18, 2005
First place to sleep: Curled in a ball next to me on my bed, an air mattress at the time
Loved: walks, tummy & butt scratches, good morning biscuits, table scraps
Disliked: cats, rock-chucks, squirrels, the UPS man, having to spend the day in his crate before Momma saved him
From the Humane Society:
MY STORY
Blaze is a super dog! He is sweet and energetic, yet walks very nicely on a lead & knows the basics – “sit”, “down” & also does pretty well w/stay! He’ll make a great companion & friend. – Volunteer Linda
I will never forget the first day I brought Deacon home. He did not even want to get out of the car once I was at home and parked in the garage. I just parked the car and left the door to the house open so he could walk in. Once he came into the house I knelt down by him and he buried his head into my chest. That was something Deacon did for the rest of his life to show affection. We had a special bond right from the start.
Gina and I would not have met if it weren’t for our dogs. I was walking Deacon when her dog at the time Kuma started following Deacon and I. I called the number on Kuma’s dog tag and returned him to her backyard; she was out of town for Memorial Day. I went over to introduce myself the next week and Kuma and Deacon had frequent play dates. The rest is history.
I know that the last thing he saw was me hugging him and crying. I can at least have the comfort of knowing he passed with his master at his side in his own home. I have shed many tears for him and will hold a special place in my heart for Deacon despite his flaws. I will always remember him as a loyal dog that would have gladly given his life to protect Gina, Lucas or myself.
I love and miss you Deacon.
